Nadja was born Nadja Kattskaya in the very late 1700s in Moscow, Russia. Being an only child, she felt the weight of her parents' hopes and dreams of making something out of their bright daughter on her shoulders. She discovered an enjoyment of dancing and was enrolled in ballet school at a young age. Soon, she was accepted by one of the most famous ballet companies in all Russia, the Mariinsky Ballet. There, she studied for many years and went long periods of time without ever seeing her family. By the time she was sixteen years old, she was already considered to be a prima ballerina. She had become a highly-skilled ballet dancer and often took the lead role in almost every performance that the theater put on. An elegant ballerina, she dazzled many and caught the attention of different men that were enamored by her performance and beauty. One of these men was Abraham Rabinovich, who, unbeknownst to her, was a vampire. He was fascinated by her beauty and innocence and gently pursued her.However, a man by the name of Aleksei Kozlov took the chance to pursue her. He was a shy young man who didn't come from very much, but his sister had married into a wealthy family. That gave him a chance to mingle with the social elite from time to time and be able to afford to go to different performances from plays to ballets. Coming to a ballet was how he met Nadja and gained the courage to approach her. The two began seeing each other and by the spring of the following year, they were to be married.The happy couple appeared to be one of great happiness and living carefree in their home along the beautiful Russian countryside. That happiness would be short-lived when tragedy struck one fateful night and her husband was brutally murdered at the hands of Abraham, the vampire that she had pined after her all those years ago. He had been following her life up until the point that he decided to take her for himself, which meant taking away the happy life that she had built for herself in the process. After killing them he set the homestead on fire. Outside, he forced a sobbing and screaming Nadja to watch as the house burned down and her husband burned to his deathFinally, as the fire turned into ash, Abraham viciously turned Nadja into a vampire, trapping her into eternal pain and suffering, and, most of all, bloodlust. Becoming something she didn't understand was confusing to her and the grief she felt for her family made it that much harder on her. The urge for drinking blood was something that she was not able to control and overwhelmed her. Nadja ended up killing the brother of a local farmer, her first taste of blood, and something that she craved more and more of, and hated herself for. Abraham mocked her for this, telling her that there was no point in resisting the beautiful monster that she was meant to be.There were long periods of time in her life where Nadja felt very dependent on Abraham despite knowing what an evil influence he was in her life. He coaxed her into doing awful, regrettable things. She would later suffer from PTSD from the things that he put her through, and she would never be the same again. It wasn't until the 1920s when she finally found the courage to claim her independence away from her maker. She had become a wiser and stronger vampire and stood up to the likes of him, vowing to hunt him down and slaughter him the way that he had slaughtered her own flesh and blood. Over time, she worked through her PTSD and began training herself in martial arts combat, knowledge of different weapons and how to use them, and became more athletic than just a ballerina practicing her balance. She didn't just plan on murdering Abraham, but hunting down all of the supernatural creatures she knew were monsters harming humans.

THE GILDED HAND UNIVERSE.This universe is based on songs by Radical Face.SONGS: "The Gilded Hand" & "The Road To Nowhere"A scientist and sociopath by the name of ARTEMIS TOMB was obsessed with the idea of alchemy. It was only when he found evidence that there were certain individuals with "strange blood" possessing unique abilities that he took his obsession a step further. Artemis owned a factory in an industrial town, one that was mostly abandoned by most of civilization. The factory itself was widely used as a front to seek out these individuals and perform experiments on them. Finding that children were easier to take and perform these experiments on, he hunted the streets for these "odd" children who were more than likely runaways or had been abandoned by their families out of fear and hate over what they were capable of doing. Whenever he found a child that was "touched," he experimented on them and put them through several tests to learn the extent of their abilities. The "normal" children were kept in the factory to work. Most of these children were never seen by anyone again.Despite being taken as children, many of them had special abilities that they didn't want anyone else to learn about. They didn't want anyone else to find out what they could do and be harmed again the way that the Gilded Hand had harmed them. So they came up with a story that the alchemist had kept them working in the factory and tortured them. It wasn't exactly a lie either considering the experiments were torture, and they had the injuries and old scars to back up that story. Some of the children who were just workers without abilities went through enough trauma and saw too much that they agreed not to tell anyone and stick to the story.PATRICK'S BIOGRAPHY.Patrick Jones was the result of a love affair. He never knew much about his biological mother but knew that he had only been given up because she was too young and unstable to be able to bring a child into the world and raise it herself. However, from the stories that he had been told by the few that had cared enough to raise him, Patrick's father was a man named Abel Jones who had been fatally wounded in war when he took a severe injury to the head. He never even knew that the woman he loved was pregnant with his child before he passed away from the brain injury he sustained.When he was three, Patrick began sleepwalking around his foster parents' house and writing on the walls. It was mostly gibberish writing that the parents didn't understand and, worried about him, took him to a child psychiatrist to see if there was something wrong with their foster son. Despite different suggestions from the psychiatrists themselves, there was nothing that effectively worked to stop Patrick from sleepwalking. Preventive measures were taken but sometimes Patrick managed to bypass them. He continued writing messages on the walls, too.When Patrick was six years old, THE GILDED HAND snatched him from the streets and brought him to the factory on the industrial side of town. Not the first kid to be taken there by far, he realized there were others like him, even if he didn't quite understand what he was just yet. The Gilded Hand performed different experiments on him to see just what kind of ability this sleepwalker had and soon learned that Patrick had the ability of precognition. The messages he had scribbled on the walls and anything he could find as a writing surface wasn't just gibberish, but clues of things to come. For instance, he had written the name of a child that hadn't even been taken yet. He even predicted some catastrophe on the news (only the Gilded Hand learned of this, of course, because the kids never saw television in the factory).After several years of being held prisoner by the Gilded Hand, at age thirteen, Patrick woke up one morning to the other children telling him that the alchemist had been found dead in one of the factory hallways and that they had the keys to the factory so that they could escape. Getting out of his bed, which was more like a broken-down mattress on the floor, he found that his hands were caked with blood and bloody messages were smeared on the walls. Startled and assuming he had been the one to kill their captor, he helped lead the kids out of the factory.Despite being taken as children, many of them had special abilities that they didn't want anyone else to learn about. They didn't want anyone else to find out what they could do and be harmed again the way that the Gilded Hand had harmed them. So they came up with a story that the alchemist had kept them working in the factory and tortured them.After the children went through police interviews, many of them were put in protective foster homes while the luckier ones managed to be placed with their biological families again. As for Patrick, he went into foster care for nearly two more years until he was reunited with Victoria, his biological mom whom he had never met before. Meeting his birth mom helped heal some wounds that had remained open for too long and when he was fifteen, Victoria officially took parental custody of him for the last three years of his teenage life.Patrick stayed in touch with as many of the other kids he’d shared a prison with, namely his best friend, Teddy Hadley. Teddy had been like a protective older brother to Patrick and wasn’t sure if he or any of the others could have survived the factory without him.After graduating high school and going through college, Patrick became an agent for Child Protective Services, wanting to reach out and protect helpless children the way that he and his friends were neglected to be kept safe when he was a kid.

THE GILDED HAND UNIVERSE.This universe is based on songs by Radical Face.SONGS: "The Gilded Hand" & "The Road To Nowhere"A scientist and sociopath by the name of ARTEMIS TOMB was obsessed with the idea of alchemy. It was only when he found evidence that there were certain individuals with "strange blood" possessing unique abilities that he took his obsession a step further. Artemis owned a factory in an industrial town, one that was mostly abandoned by most of civilization. The factory itself was widely used as a front to seek out these individuals and perform experiments on them. Finding that children were easier to take and perform these experiments on, he hunted the streets for these "odd" children who were more than likely runaways or had been abandoned by their families out of fear and hate over what they were capable of doing. Whenever he found a child that was "touched," he experimented on them and put them through several tests to learn the extent of their abilities. The "normal" children were kept in the factory to work. Most of these children were never seen by anyone again.Despite being taken as children, many of them had special abilities that they didn't want anyone else to learn about. They didn't want anyone else to find out what they could do and be harmed again the way that the Gilded Hand had harmed them. So they came up with a story that the alchemist had kept them working in the factory and tortured them. It wasn't exactly a lie either considering the experiments were torture, and they had the injuries and old scars to back up that story.WINNIE'S BIOGRAPHY.There are only a few memories Winnie has from her past before she became a captive of the cruel man who called himself the Gilded Hand. One was of her neighbor, Tom Carson, who was surely in love with Winnie's mother. He used to tease them that the little girl should wear bells around her ankles at night to let her mother know when she was up and about the house sleepwalking, something that had become more serious. Though her memory was tricky, she was sure Tom had chased after her in the woods one fall night when she had been sleepwalking. Unbeknownst to them, she was possessed by a dazed and confused spirit.Winnie barely remembers her mother, Abigail, who developed schizophrenia a handful of years after the birth of her only child. She could hardly manage her own health let alone take care of a child that seemed strange to say the least. She was taken to doctors to find out why she continued to sleepwalk through the house. The doctors prescribed medication and scratched their heads at what caused this terrible form of sleepwalking, but nobody could get the truth.Little did they know, the little girl was a gateway for spirits to be able to come to her, speak to her, and also possess her if they got close to her “light.” Her body naturally expelled them, no spirit ever becoming permanently attached to their host.One day during a therapy session, a man who called himself the Gilded Hand kidnapped Winnie and took her to an abandoned factory. Many children lived in the factory with her, both special like her and some perfectly ordinary that he could never let go of. Experiments were performed on the children, the Gilded Hand trying to figure out what made them so extraordinary and how could use that for himself. Winnie discovered that she wasn't alone as she thought. Besides the other children held captive, she learned that her cousin, Jude Thomson , was also held captive.He found that the little girl could not only communicate with the dead when they broke through the plane to speak to her, but they were able to possess her body as well. Never having seen something like this before, he was fascinated with that. When the spirits left her body, she was left sleepwalking again, wandering aimlessly until someone either led her back to her cot or she was woken up.Traumatized by what she was going through, Winnie stuck mainly to herself. She shared a room with a few other children but hardly ever spoke to them. Sometimes she scared them when she would sleepwalk because nobody was sure what to do, especially knowing that she could be possessed by strange spirits. Over time she forgot so many memories about her life - what her mother’s face looked like, what her house looked like, and the sound of music playing from the cassette player in her bedroom. So many memories were lost, especially the more she was put through by the alchemist and the years spent alone, hardly saying a word to anyone. Another boy named Teddy was among the children there, becoming a protector for them. He’d talk to Winnie when nobody else would and make sure she didn’t go cold or hungry. He’d comfort her in times of need.The day of their escape finally came when the Gilded Hand mysteriously died. Nobody was sure how it happened but they wasted no time in escaping together. To protect the ones with special abilities, all of the children (though most of them were much older now) came up with a solid story. They would claim that the Gilded Hand kept them working in the factory and tortured them. It wasn’t a lie either, just some details left out to protect each other. The children found their way to help and safety. Many children were reunited with their families, but there were also plenty of children who weren’t as lucky and were placed in foster homes.Winnie was briefly reunited with her mother, only to find that she was in and out of mental health facilities when her schizophrenia was bad. Instead of placing her back at home with a mother who could hardly take care of her daughter, she went to live with her cousin Jude and his family.SONG: "The Dead Waltz"
